IoT Traffic Generation Sources

In VARIoT, we will primarily generate traffic from some of the most popular IoT devices. We have started building a testbed (see architecture below).

IoT Traffic Generation Testbed

1. Testbed components

The testbed is composed of the following devices:

  • Microcontroller: Raspberry Pi 3 (link)
  • Smartphone: Huawei Honor 10 Lite (link)
  • Smart plug:
    • TP-Link HS110 (link)
    • Teckin SP21
  • Smart cameras:

2. Other Traffic Generation Sources

There exist a number of ways to generate IoT traffic. Below are listed existing testbeds relying on specific generation methods along with available datasets.

2.1. Hardware-based

  • IoTSentinel (TU Darmstadt)
  • Smart Campus (UNSW)

2.2. Software-based

  • Iot Inspector (Princeton)

2.3. Simulation-based

  • BoT-IoT (UNSW Canberra)

2.4. Emulation-based

  • ELIoT (Ericsson)
  • UiTiOt (UIT-HCM)
  • IoT-LAB (FIT)
